Case Study: Flap surgery
The Avance Solo Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System is indicated for patients who would benefit from wound management via the application of negative pressure, particularly as the device may promote wound healing through the removal of exudate and infectious material.

Wound history
31-year-old female patient with current chronic pulmonary disease was admitted for a flap surgery for a Pilonidal Sinus in the sacrum. Initial presentation: Pilonidal sinus (prior to surgery, 11 Jan)Treatment regime
A portable negative pressure wound therapy system was applied successfully in the operating room and used until the wound was fully healed. No additional fixation was used. Cleansing with Granudacyn® was performed at every dressing change. No additional antibiotics were prescribed during the treatment period.Outcome
The surgery resulted in a flap of 10 cm x 15 cm x 15 cm with a depth 1 cm with no necrotic tissue. The majority of the flap attached with a small area of sloughy tissue visible. The incision had low amounts of serosanguineous/bloody exudate that was non-viscous. No exudate on the two following visits 12 days after surgery and 100% of the wound was epithelialised. There were no clinical signs of infection during the treatment period. The surrounding skin appeared continuously healthy throughout. The patient reported no pain before or during the dressing changes.Performance
Despite being a difficult area to dress, the dressing was applied fully sealed and there were no leakage alarms for the duration of treatment. Furthermore, there were no leakage alarms for the duration of treatment additional dressing changes between visits.Patient experience
The patient was compliant and perceived the treatment to be easy to manage and carry the device and that it provided a sense of safety after the surgery.Product evaluation
In general, the clinician perceived the device overall as very good. Both the size and the conformability of the dressing were specifically noted.
